About the event

APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY FOR HUMAN-ROBOT INTERACTION DESIGN

This presentation is all about the “why?” underlying key design guidelines that we are taught at the basic level of design education. I will delve into the psychological principles that are integral factors in how we design interfaces, interactions, applications and embodied artifacts such as robots. Does the understanding of psychological principles help in approaching the human from a different perspective? How are the basic principles of memory, analytical thinking, problem solving all consolidated to make up for what we refer to as cognitive load- with a single term?

This presentation will have three distinct parts: the first part will be a discussion on core psychological principles applied in design; the second part will be a bit more detailed on application of psychological principles in different levels of interaction design for engaging software applications and for robots. Finally, we shall see how psychology helps us understand and create experiences for different robot platforms: a personal robot and an industrial robot.
